ok so, there were all these police cars and helicopters ect. so my mom set the house alarm. we found out the criminal was caught, so i said can we turn it off now? and she said we’ll leave it on till tomorrw morning. i have a huge fear of it going off in the middle of the night. im really scared from that. once at 2:30 it went off even though there was no one there. since that we’ve never set it. but now in scared it’ll go off in the middle of the night even if its a false alarm. help?????

Don’t panic! Your mom is doing the right thing. The alarm won’t hurt you, even if it goes off for no reason. It’s better to risk a false alarm than to have no warning if somebody does try to break in — which is unlikely statistically speaking. Ask your mom to show you how to set the alarm and silence it if it goes off. If you know how it works, it might not freak you out anymore. Put a flash light and a baseball bat under your bed, if that will make you feel better.

Do you enjoy the beautiful model aircrafts that are sold in the toy shops and on so many sites online? Of course you can just go to a shop or click on a site and buy the ones you like most. But besides the fact that buying ready models costs you money it’s just not as cool as building models yourself.

What kind of models could you build yourself? Almost all. Here are some ideas:

Paper airplanes. Who has not build one as a kid? Building paper airplane can be as simple as getting a sheet of paper and making few folds. But there are also flying paper aircrafts with an engine and remote control or others which are exact scale models of existing real aircrafts. Some enthusiasts build even paper helicopter which can fly.

The main disadvantage of the paper aircrafts is that they easily get damaged – especially the really flying ones.

Free flight aircrafts. There is a category of model airplanes called “free flight” which means they fly without any attachment to the ground or even to your hand. Most free flight models are simple – just like the simple paper airplanes that we build as kids (they are in fact free flight airplane models too). Free flight helicopters are much harder to build than the airplanes for obvious reasons, but there are people who build them – with self rotating propellers or “charged” by a rubber band mechanism.

The free flight airplanes are great enjoyment and fun. They are easy to get lost which is their main disadvantage.

RC Aircrafts. Remote control aircrafts are very cool toys but they really require technical knowledge about electronics and similar stuff. You will not save money by building such models yourself – the ready RC airplanes and helicopters are pretty cheap compared to the efforts to build yourself. But if you can build an RC aircraft by your own hands you will really have something to be proud of.

You may build RC aircraft much easier if you buy a kit or at least a package of remote control and engine.

Static Scale Models. Sounds simple? Actually this is the heavy artillery of the airplane modeling. Making scale models is hard exactly because you have to keep the scale of the real model. This require high preciseness and skills to work on very small parts.

The static model aircrafts can be made of wood, mahogany, plastic or even clay. If you are scarified to do everything from scratch you can buy almost ready static models which require only painting. This is a good way to start.

Most fans of the model aviation sooner or later want to build their own models in addition to the ones they buy and collect. You may decide to start by building yourself – there is nothing scary and it’s a lot of fun.

Inexpensive personal helicopters for home or farm use?

Somebody told me you can buy small personal use helipcopters and they come in a crate and you build them and they are very cheap (like $1,500 american or something)…they are just novelty toys and you still need a licence to fly them.. they only hold one person, don’t fly very high…are pretty usless…but they sound like TONS of fun and i’d buy one!

You may need some additional equipment, depending what kind of radio controlled helicopter you opt for. Electric RC helicopters usually include everything you need in the kit, but you’ll probably want to pick up some extra batteries so that you don’t have to sit out on the fun while you recharge.

The nitro gas powered RC helicopters will need fuel which is a little on the expensive side and you will also need to have cleanup rags for wiping away any gas that has spilled. With both types, it is always a good idea to have extra blades just in case something should get damaged in a crash.

Beginning pilots of radio controlled helicopters will often wonder whether they should go for an electric helicopter or one which is gas powered. Choosing a gas powered model will make for a bit more of a learning curve and provide an additional challenge as well. Advanced RC helicopter hobbyists generally fly gas powered helicopters, which they say are closer to the experience of flying a real helicopter. While the fuel for these RC helicopters is a little pricey, these models do allow you to refuel quickly and get your helicopter back in the air fast.

Question on Helicopter and Tank model kit sizes.?

I have a 1/35 M1A2 Abrams and 1/35 M2A2 Bradley and plan on making a diorama. I am about to get a 1/35 UH-60 Black Hawk and was wondering if that was the exact size to be fit for the 1/35 tank and helicopter diorama

Okay… to SCALE… 1/35 scale means that one foot in REAL LIFE is 35 feet on your model. Divide the actual size by 35 and you get the size of the model. So for example, a 35 foot long helicopter would be a 1 foot model, OR a 17′ 6″ long tank would be a 6 inch long model. With me so far ??

Now here are the lengths of your models:

M1A2 Abrams – 32′ .48″ (model = 10.98 inches)
M2A2 Bradley – 21′ 2″ (model = 7.25 inches)
SH-60B Seahawk* – 64ft 10″ or 778 inches (model = 22.23 inches)

I can’t give you an EXACT size for your diorama, because THAT depends on how YOU chose to POSE the vehicles !! BUT, just from the helicopter, you’ll need at LEAST a 24″ square to get the model on the board and MOST of the rotor blades within the board.

The BEST way to determine the size of the board you’ll need is to take the models (built, or incomplete), and pose them on a table… play around to get the layout you’d like. Remember, you are trying to tell a STORY with your diorama, not just putting them “on-parade”.

Ask yourself WHY the Blackhawk is with a Tank and IFV !?! Is the Blackhawk doing a MedVac? Is the Blackhawk DOWN and the vehicles are doing security while the bird is being prepped for airlift and salvage? note: this would be a GREAT way to reduce the size of the diorama, because you could cut off the BLADES !! ALSO remember that the Blackhawk crew isn’t going to LAND too close to a tank… steel “blocks” do NASTY things to spinning rotor-blades !!
